Week #44 31st Oct - 6th Nov

There was a full week of events this week for the club, with members competing on both the national & European stage.

First off at Berry Hill, Notts the England cross country associations national relays were taking place, with the club fielding teams in both the men’s & women’s competition. For the senior women, teams of 3 faced a tough but enjoyable 3km course. Harborough’s Team A made up of Hannah Eveleigh, Jill Postlethwaite & Karen Brooks finished 53rd position on the day with an accumulative time of 0:36:50, with Hannah posting the fastest leg for the clubs ladies. They were closely chased by Team B, comprising Sarah Ward, Christine Voelkerling & Jackie Hanmer, who posted a time just 2 minutes slower than their compatriots for 66th position. Joining Hannah & Sarah on leg 1 was Lianne Brooks, who undeterred from not having a complete team still posted a fine time of 0:13:56 for 110th position.

The Men ‘s relay squads were made up of 4 runners, with the course extended slightly to 5km. Andy Meads kicked off for the mens team also using the leg 1 advantage to post the fastest time, with Martin Gore, Will Clapp & Jamie Thompson all playing their part helping the club finish 116th combined time of 01:20:23.

At the 20th European Prisons XC Championships Nicola James took part in her first cross country race in 2 years, representing the England & Wales prison service in the illustrious event. Nicola was right to be pleased, producing a fine display with a time of 25.35 for 5km, finishing 11th overall and 2nd FV40.

Also competing in Europe this week was the Barber family, with Yvonne & Kyle both taking part in the Cross du Larvotto in Monaco. The traditional race which is split into 9 distances for varying age categories incorporates leg sapping sections across the beach & proves a tough test for all runners. Over the 6.3Km distance in the senior male race Kyle produced a strong run for a time of 24:38 & 13th position while Yvonne was rewarded with 5th place after a fine display over the 4.7km route.

Closer to home, 4 members took on the notoriously wet & windy Rockingham raceway 10Km race over the weekend, persevering despite the difficult conditions a team of Tom Kershaw, Amanda Scuffham, Steve King & Carmel Perrin all produced great runs. First home for the club on the day was Tom, stopping the clock at 0:41:01& placing 9th out of the 237 finishers. Next back was Steve & Amanda who were donning club colours for the first time, having prior agreed to run together aiming to dip under 55mins, the pair paced a perfect race recording both laps within a few seconds of each other as they both achieved personal best times of 53:37. On top of this Amanda also finished 3rd place in age group. Completing the group was Carmel who broke the 1hr mark finishing in a respectable time of 57:33 for 124th position.

Elsewhere on Sunday Matt Driver travelled to Standon, Derbyshire for the Flying Fox 10 miles road race where he continued his rich vein of form with an excellent run coming home in 3rd position out of 241 finishers with a time of 0:58:10.

During the week Tom Ward & Laura Farnsworth took part in the first of the Leicester winter 5k series over at Victoria Park. Tom finished 8th in a strong field, recording a time of 0:18:29 with Laura also running well finishing in 0:30:34 for 55th place from the 71 finishers.

On the parkrun scene this week 17 members took part at Market Harborough with Adam Stewart setting a new pb, whilst at Huntingdon Dave Oram set his second fastest time for the course.
