It proved a busy week of competition for the club after a brief festive interlude, starting on Wednesday night with the return of Leicester's 5Km series at Victoria park which once again proved very popular among our runners. As with the previous rounds of the event our Harborough team claimed a host of top age finishes with Ray Lack, Pam Hilliam and Val Goode all coming away with the series championship with 3 wins each. On the night Ian Southwell was first home for the club in 16th (3rd M40), followed by Ray in 21st (1st M70), Andy Shrive 32nd (1st M55), Louise McAllister 38th (1st F45), Val Goode 45th (1st F60), Catherine Keal 55th, Pam Hilliam 58th (1st F70), Leanne Shrive 61st, Yvonne Barber 65th (2nd F60), Patsy Wilson 69th (3rd F40).
On Saturday the annual County championships took place and for Leicestershire, Rotherby in Melton-Mowbray played host. In the Women’s 6Km race a duo Jacquie Hanmer & Marise Taylor were among the 105-strong field. Jacquie was first Harborough runner back in a time of 0:31:49 for 28th (2nd F50), with Maris Taylor clocking 0:40:38 for 83rd.
For the men over the extended 10Km race Matt Driver lead his team home in 0:47:19 for 51st, followed by Jamie McAllister 96th, Ade Stewart 116th chased down by David Maclean 118th just nine seconds behind and Gary Wallis in 148th. On the day the masters men team finished 8th.
In the Northamptonshire edition at Wicksteed park, Adam Eales was the only Senior representative claiming 27th place in a time of 0:44:30.
Escaping the cold on the Promenade des Anglais along the Mediterranean in Nice, France, Kyle Barber took part in the Le Prom'Classic 10Km where an impressive time of 35:24 saw him earn 165th of the 6717 finishers.
