3 Counties Glory
Over the weekend of the 9th and 10th May, 11 HAC athletes competed with marked success in the 2009 3 Counties Track & Field Championships (Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire).
In the sprints, Nicholas Holliday finished 5th in the U13 Boys 100m, while two of the Astley brothers - Chris and Jamie - took part in both the 100m and 200m in the Senior Mens category, with Chris finishing in 8th in the 200m final.
It was over the middle distance events, though, that the club really showed its hand, bringing home no fewer than 6 medals, courtesy of Will Clapp, Sarah Ward, Megan Booler and Sarah Haines. Ward won the bronze over 800m in the U17 Girls category, whilst Booler won gold in the U20 Girls equivalent. Haines also placed 1st, over the Senior Women's 5,000m, recording a new County Record of 17:56.4 in the process. However, it was to Clapp that the majority of the plaudits should, justifiably, go, with the HAC stalwart picking up 3 gold medals; for the 800m, 1,500m, and 5,000m respectively!
Meanwhile, though the club was somewhat sparsely represented in the field events, there was still glory to be had for both Lianne Brooks and Andy Wilkinson in the Pole Vault, with Brooks winning the Northamptonshire Senior Women's event, and Wilkinson matching this with victory in the Masters Men's event.
