Club Athletes Feature in 2009 National Rankings
2009 has proven to be a very productive year for HAC, with huge success being acheived across the varied disciplines of track & field, road and cross country. Such accomplishment has been exemplified through the final, end-of-year national rankings system (as shown at www.powerof10.info), with a number of Club athletes featuring. Most notable amongst these, and typifying their performances from the year, were Jill Roginski, Andy Wilkinson, Sean Fenwick, Karen Brooks and Jenny Jones.
Jill was placed 9th in the female Vet50 rankings for the discus, with her throw of 21.77m (from the meeting at Nuneaton on 7 June). Andy was also classified 9th in the male Vet45 standings for the pole vault with his County title-winning mark of 3.20m.
Sean concluded a terrific year with 11th place in the male Vet35 5 mile category - as yielded by his mark of 25mins 41secs from the Wolverton road race of 28 November. Jenny, an ever-willing member of the Veterans Track & Field team, also reaped deserved reward for her endeavours with 12th in the female Vet60 standings for the 100m.
However, arguably the most pleasing to see must be the evident return to form of Karen Brooks. Having suffered significantly with injury through the early part of the year, Karen displayed her usual resolute nature in fighting back to fitness, and placed 12th and 14th in the 1500m and 3000m respectively for the female Vet50 rankings.
Special mention should also go to Lazloe Boden, whose first year with Harborough AC saw him recorded inside the top 30 for both 10 miles and the marathon in the male Vet45 standings.
Congratulations to all those above, and to all Club runners for a fantastic 2009, and here's to surpassing it in 2010!
