Keeping up with the Gebrselassies!
On September 3rd Harborough AC, as a club, will be attempting to beat the World marathon record currently held by Haile Gebrselassie (at 2 hours 4 minutes 36 seconds).
The challenge will see a team of 15 male HAC runners complete a total of 105.4 laps of the Kettering athletics track (at Kettering Leisure Village) in the fastest possible time - ran as a relay, with each athlete running 7 laps each.
This will require an average time of 71.1 seconds per lap, and represents a pace of 4 minutes 45.3 seconds per mile!
This challenge is one that has only been undertaken by very few clubs in the country, and is a real test for all the athletes involved.
There is also provision for an attack on the women's marathon record (held by Britain's own Paula Radcliffe, at 2 hours 15 minutes 25 seconds) if there is sufficient interest!
All in all, the whole evening promises to be a great club night, with the challenge itself beginning at 7pm, so please come and give your support to those taking part!
If any club runners are interested in taking part, please contact Tony Harrison on 07753 928781.
