North Midlands Cross Country League, Markeaton Park, Derby, 10th October 2009
With several younger runners absent due to commitments to their schools in the Leicesterhsire Secondary Schools Cross Country League, a dozen Harborough AC athletes travelled to Derby to compete in the season's opening fixture of the prestigious North Midlands Cross Country League. The veteran men finished in a creditable 10th place overall, but star individual performance of the day came from Karen Brooks, who demolished the rest of the FV50 field to win by over two minutes in 27:22. The Watson twins - Niamh and Molly - made impressive debuts in the girls' U11 race, finishing in 5th and 7th respectively, while their brother Jake ran well in his first race at U17 level to come home 17th. U20 800m specialist Matt Driver stepped up in distance and showed great determination to complete the men's three-lap 9.7 kilometre course, despite feeling unwell after the first lap.
