Club's Road Runners Mooo-ving in Fine Fettle Amongst Concrete Cows!
The marketing strapline for Willen Lake in Milton Keynes says "it's not just a Lake…it's a lifestyle"; and a similar mantra could easily be applied to the three intrepid HAC athletes who braved the inclement conditions to tackle the recent Wolverton 5 mile race on Saturday 28th November. The names of Fenwick, Clapp and Pitcher have become synonymous this calendar year with impressive performances, and this was certainly no less the case around the banks of the Milton Keynes aquatic attraction on the 45th running of this event.
The race sees runners complete two laps of a flat, fast, traffic-free course, and in such settings the reinvigorated Sean Fenwick produced his best 5 mile time for several years, clocking 25 minutes and 41 seconds to take sixth place. With such rapid consistency, it seems sure that 39-year old Fenwick will re-write the majority of the Club's veteran records when he enters that demographic next year!
Already pushing those marks is current Cross Country Captain, Will Clapp. Clapp took a break from the mud to record a time of 27 minutes 59 seconds, just getting the better of his personal battle with the 28-minute boundary, and securing 25th place on the day - 4th in the MV40 age category.
A little farther back was Jason Pitcher - ensuring a sixth place finish overall for the Team with 29 minutes and 29 seconds in 44th place. Pitcher recently lowered his marathon PB to 2 hours 48 minutes and 42 seconds, and a very promising road season for 2009-2010 beckons for another stalwart of the Club running scene.
A total of 315 runners finished the Wolverton '5', further underlining the strength of the Club's latest road-running capabilities.
