Weekly Round-Up

The promotional information for East Carlton Country Park talks of its location on the Welland Valley, and ‘three nature trails that afford the energetic a chance to stretch their legs’. Last Wednesday, however, a total of 340 runners – including 17 Members of Harborough AC – took this offer to heart as they navigated the five mile route of the fourth of the East Midlands Grand Prix Series races. With 55th position overall, Richard Bufton cemented his standing as one of the foremost road runners in the Men’s Vet50 category in the county with another second place finish in that bracket (in a time of 31:00), reinforcing his Series placing. Having recently picked up third place overall for the Leicestershire Road Running League’s winter division, Bufton looks set for another strong Series podium finish, reaping clear rewards for all his hard work in training.
At the other end of the experience spectrum, meanwhile, Oliver Clarke donned his Club colours for the first time; the sixteen year old debuting with a very impressive and encouraging run of 32:34, for 86th place. Matt Driver reinforced the growing strength of the Club’s youth division with another second-placed classification in the Men’s Under20 category, taking 62nd overall with 31:10, while Lazloe Boden continued to show his class with second place in the Men’s Vet45 section in 29:08 (for 29th overall). There were also very welcome returns to action for Chris Webb, Sarah van Nierop, Steve Clarke, and Brenda Shrive; while road race stalwarts Will Clapp, Martin Gore, Ady King and Adam Brooks all secured top-100 finishes. The Senior Men’s Team took sixth place, and the Veteran Men’s Team, second. The Senior Women’s Team finished eleventh, and the Veteran Women, ninth.
