Sunday saw several Harborough AC runners taking part in the second race of the 2010 Derby Runner Cross Country Series; racing around the picturesque surroundings of Foremark Reservoir. The Series takes in a number of testing courses towards the north of the county, and the most recent event was no different – although, despite the recent inclement weather conditions, it did prove to offer good under foot conditions. Ady King continued his strong transition from the road to the country, placing first for the club over the two lap course, and 25th overall. Next across the line was Shane Edge, in 93rd, with Club Chairman Martin Hughes in 174th, and Nick Johnston maintaining his progression with 184th position. In the women’s event, just 15 seconds separated Jackie King and Jo Johnston; the former edging the in-Club battle with 83rd, to Jo’s 85th.
Saturday 18th December sees this year’s Christmas Handicap Event for all Club Members with, once again, a three-mile Seniors’ Race, and a one-mile Children’s version. Last year witnessed a more-than impressive turnout in spite of the heavy snowfalls that preceded it; and this year’s Event promises to be just as well attended. All Club members are reminded to bring a wrapped Christmas present (to the value of no more than £5), and can look forward to a warm drink and well-earned traditional mince pie at the finish! The event is due to start at 10am, behind the Leisure Centre.
In further news, the Club would like to wish a massive congratulations to Mark and Zoe Garrod on the birth of their daughter – Dori. It’s understood that the whole family are doing well, and are thoroughly delighted on her arrival!
