Mud, Glorious Mud

The second North Mids Cross Country League fixture of the season, held in wet conditions at Corby’s Glebe Park, saw a huge turnout from Harborough AC, with thirty-seven members of all ages competing, from under-11s right up to veterans. The top team performance of the day came from the under-13 girls, who finished 4th on the day, and there were top-three individual positions in their age-groups for Martha Clapp (3rd under-20 woman), Lin Farrow (2nd WV60) and men’s team captain Sean Fenwick, who was first MV45 home.

The junior athletes followed this up with some excellent performances indoors in the Northants Network SportsHall event held at Corby Technical School. Another impressive turnout from the boys and girls in yellow saw twenty-six under-11 and under-13 athletes competing in a range of indoor races, jumps and throws. Competing against five other clubs Harborough finished in the top three in all of the age-group categories: 3rd in both under-11 boys and girls, 2nd in the under-13 boys, and winning the under-13 girls.

Club chairman Will Clapp said, “It’s great team management from Lianne Brooks, Sean Fenwick and Graham Hillier that has got so many of our youngsters to be willing and able to compete so enthusiastically and successfully for us. It was excellent to see our people braving the foul weather for the cross country and to see so many volunteers from the club helping out in running the SportsHall event. Junior training sessions are held on Monday evenings, with seniors meeting at The Training Shed on Tuesdays at 6.45pm. We’re always pleased to welcome people who want to try out running with us”.
