North Mids XC Round-Up
The final race of the North Midlands Cross Country League season saw eight Harborough athletes travel to a muddy but sunny Wollaton Park in Nottingham. The club finished 12th on the day in the under-11 team event and 9th in the women’s, to take 6th and 8th respectively in the overall leagues.
On the individual front the top performances of the day came from Fiona Alexander (2nd WV40) and Martha Clapp (3rd U20W), whilst in the under-11 races there were determined performances from Amelia Lowe and Zoe Morgan-Williams (15th and 22nd). In the under-13 girls’ 3k race Lizzie Clapp ran hard from the off and helped herself to 4th place against a strong field. Publication of final individual league standings is awaited, but we know that Martha Clapp, the club’s 2015 cross country runner of the year, secured 2nd place in her debut year in the under-20 category.
The show now moves on to the Midlands Championships on 30th January, which were due to be held at Stafford Common, much of which is now under water. An alternative venue is therefore being arranged.
