An update from the club

Safety on the roads

During the dark winter nights everybody should take responsible safety precautions when running on the roads and pavements around town.
RunBritain have produced some basic guidelines :- Running in the Dark.
When running from the club please do not train on your own - run with the organised groups and listen to the coaches’ advice before setting out.

Christmas Handicap

Our Christmas handicap will be held on Saturday 17th December at the back of the Leisure Centre. This is an event that is suitable for all our members regardless of which group you train with on Tuesday nights. The start and finish for the seniors and the juniors races will be just behind the building. Seniors approx. 4k on pavements and juniors approx. 2k on the fields. Assembly for warm up and races no later than 10am - Race times to be confirmed. See John Thompson for more details.

London Marathon

The Club has two automatic entries to the London Marathon. Anyone who has a rejection slip for the 2017 marathon is invited to pass them to David Ward.
A draw for the two places will then be made at the Christmas Handicap.

Charity Cup XC

Kettering Town Harriers annual XC races take place at Wicksteed Park on Saturday 10th December. Races for all age groups and the Northants County Masters’ Championships will also be incorporated in the senior race. Please support this local event – a good opportunity for those of you who haven’t tried cross-country since school.
Entry details.

Coaching Assistants

The club is always in need of help with coaching on club nights. If you are interested or know somebody that is please speak to any of our coaches to offer assistance. The club will also assist with gaining qualifications and the progressing through the UKA coaching pathway. A Coaching Assistant course is being held in Northampton in February - this will provide a basic introduction to coaching athletics and covers the 3 basic principles of Running, Jumping and Throwing.

Circuit Training

The club has been subsidising circuit training sessions at the Training Shed on a Monday and Wednesday evening for 2 or 3 weeks now. They will continue until 12th/14th December and there are still some places available – see Yvonne Barber for more details.

Most Saturday mornings, John Thompson organises a group training session starting at 9.00. In the summer, these take place on the track at Kettering. In the winter, they are either at Great Bowden or Foxton. Why not make it your New Year’s Resolution to join John on a Saturday morning - ask him for more details.

Club Kit

Club vests can be purchased from the club for the sum of £15 – it is mandatory to run in a club vest in any UK Athletics recognised event. We also have running t-shirts which are £5 when paid with or just after subs are paid; or £15 to new members. Please see Yvonne Barber for ordering.

Social Events

The Committee are pleased to welcome Juliette Faulkner as Social Secretary – we are sure she will welcome suggestions as to possible events.
