The duo of Ben Smith & Andrew Holt made the now familiar trip to the stunning trails and tracks of the world-renowned Coed y Brenin Forest Park in the Snowdonia National Park, for the third annual Buff Winter Trail Half Marathon. Entries for the event opened in October, with all 600 places selling out within two days as runners seek to challenge themselves against the winter conditions, 2000ft of elevation, steep descents & minimal level terrain, all set against the picturesque backdrop.
Andy was first home; in 56th position overall & impressive 16th Vet with Ben finishing in a time of 2hrs 3mins for 136th out of 510 finishers. Ben remarked after the event; “Amazing scenery & a fantastic event, killer hills with 560metres of ascent and fast descents that make you grin from ear to ear! Great day, thank you for your support Yasmin Inglis! Also to Carrie Holt, get well soon!”
Another duo in action over the weekend was Linda Lawton & Ruth Bingham who together took on Gayton 10k; an undulating route which also forms part of the Blisworth 5 – EMGP series race. Linda & Ruth’s time of 56:37 saw them place 100/101 out of nearly 170 finishers including former European U23 5000m champion and Rio Olympian Laura Whittle.
