Update on the Christmas Handicap

I have walked the Southern Estate handicap course today and find that large parts of the route are unsafe due to ice covering the pavements.

Where the surfaces are in shadow from the sun there has been only a limited thaw. All other surfaces remain wet. There is likely to be a hard frost in the early hours of tomorrow morning which is unlikely to improve the situation in time for the proposed start time of our run.

I would choose not to run under these circumstances so it is unreasonable to ask you risk injury on the course.

IT IS WITH REGRET THAT I HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO CANCEL THE SENIOR'S HANDICAP 16th Dec 2017

If you wish to join the social after the juniors run around the fields then please turn up anyway. Access to the crèche via the rear of the leisure centre. Tea and coffee will be available. Might even be a few mince pies a well.

In previous years the seniors have run round the fields if there had been snow cover. After many thaws and refreezing the ground is not in good enough shape to take the hammer of many adult runner doing repeat laps. To avoid causing significant damage to the grass I have ruled out this option.

Please pass on this message in all ways possible (e.g. Facebook etc)

Sincere apologies
John
