Ben Smith continued his preparations for the Lakeland ultra 55k in 2 weeks, finishing an impressive 5th place with Michael Barrett in the pairs class at Saturdays Midnight Mountain Marathon. The event set in the Brecon Beacons is no ordinary marathon with participants starting at 5.30PM and racing to finish before the midnight cut off. The challenging course ran through forests, over streams, past waterfalls, includes 1400m elevation with the first 14.5 Miles run up to the Pen Y Fan summit. Finishing just before 11pm, the pair clocked in 5h 23min.
Also, off the beaten track, Steve & Amanda King were among the 171 field at Sunday's Grimthorpe Gallop, a 10Km race set within the 3,000-acre park on the historic Lincolnshire Castle's estate. Steve produced a fine display clocking 00:46:50 finishing 8th overall and 1st in his age category, whilst Amanda also had a good run coming through the sweltering conditions stopping the clock at 01:04:21 for 71st position.
