Being involved with athletics or running, whether as a participant or volunteer, can have a positive impact on our wellbeing as it has been shown to reduce stress, boosts our mood, and can provide the important links with other people that we need.

At Harborough AC we are there to help everyone, children and adults, enjoy physical exercise, get fit and active, and become more involved in the wider community. Please come and try us out if you think this is for you (Join the Club – Harborough Athletic Club). You will find a warm welcome and a friendly group to train with.

Over time, our mental health can vary according to the circumstances of our lives. Injury, bereavement, unemployment, financial issues, partnership break-up, abuse or bullying at work, home, school (including online), or in our sporting life, the disruption of having a child or caring for ageing parents, can leave us feeling vulnerable, upset and stressed.

If this is how you are feeling, or if one of your friends or family are and you want to support them, here are a list of organisations you can contact, all of whom give anonymous, confidential help and resources you can use.

But don’t forget, if you are a member of Harborough Athletic Club (junior or senior), we have two Welfare Officers who can be your first port of call, however small or big you may feel your issues are. They are:

Catherine Poynton

Catherine Poynton Lead Welfare Officer leadwelfare@harboroughac.co.uk

Judy Rowley Welfare Officer  welfare@harboroughac.co.uk

Level 1 Field Official

After years of sports and exercise, I took up running 7 years ago after I moved to Harborough. Like so many people, I started with parkrun, and eventually took the big step of joining Harborough Athletic Club. I enjoy the club group sessions, as it’s a great way to get fitter and to make new friends in a very supportive and encouraging environment, and offers many opportunities to train for events if that is what you want to do.  I also love going out running on my own around the lanes and streets of the area.
