Awards for Adam Barber and Eilidh MacLean

Two of our impressive athletes have recently been awarded the Leicestershire and Rutland AA county medals for their achievements, in lieu of the regular county championships which did not take place in 2020. I’m sure you’ll want to join us in congratulating them both for their fantastic achievements.

Eilidh Maclean

Eilidh’s award is for her outstanding performances in 2020 where she ran the fastest 800m and 1500m times on the track by a female Leicestershire and Rutland under-20 athlete.

When Eilidh’s family moved to the area in 2016 from the Scottish Highlands, she took the chance to join an athletics club for the first time. She tried her hand in a variety of disciplines and represented Leicestershire Schools in the combined events competition during 2017 and 2018.

Now focussing on middle-distance she has also represented Leicestershire in the English Schools and Inter-counties cross-country competitions.

Adam Barber

Adam’s award is for his outstanding performances in 2020 where he ran the fastest 800m, 1500m and 3000m times on the track by a male Leicestershire and Rutland male under-17 athlete. He also ran the fastest 5k road race by an under-20 athlete at Mallory Park in September 2020, which also doubled up as the LRAA 5k Championships, winning a county gold medal.

Adam joined us in 2018 and helped by the Tuesday/Thursday training sessions, progressed quickly and represented the county in 2019 and 2020 at both the English Schools and the Inter-counties cross-country championships. He now attends Loughborough College but continues to run for Harborough AC and proudly wears the yellow vest at track meetings and cross country events.
