Rebecca King, C25K graduate, was a worthy winner after an exciting race in the club’s first Memorial Run which took place this week on Tuesday 12 September. Over 60 members gathered in Welland Park to run, help, or watch a fantastic “handicap” race full of club spirit, with the heavy rain that had poured all day lifting for the duration of the event.
It was an evening where we came together to enjoy our running as a club and we did so remembering our friend, coach and fellow athlete Simon Poynton. It was fitting the race took place in the park as Simon had devoted so much of his time and energy to making our local parkrun, for both juniors and seniors, the success it is. He had the same commitment to Harborough AC and we owe him so much.
After the race, Catherine and Harvey presented the new Memorial Cup to Rebecca to mark a special night in the history of our club. The Memorial Run will be the way we commemorate our club friends. We dedicate this one to Simon.
